Sikandar Raza recreated MS Dhoni’s shot, as he hit a last-ball six to win the match for his side in the ongoing ILT20 2024. The Zimbabwean proved why he is one of the best All-Rounders in the world currently with his performance during the match against Desert Vipers. The right-handed batter overcame the challenges to win the match for his side in a difficult situation.

Earlier in the innings, Alex Hales played a brilliant knock to help his side get off to a good start. The Dubai Capitals opener scored a quickfire of 66 and helped his side to be at the top. However, the collapse in the middle overs ensured that the match progressed towards a thrilling end. Raza was determined to win the match for his side despite not getting enough support from the other end.

The target of 171 was not a mammoth one. In Dubai, given the nature of the surface, things seemed to be difficult. The ball did not come as well to the bat, unlike the other pitches in the world. It meant that scoring runs was not easy in the middle. Raza had to save his side from a potential collapse. He hence anchored the chase in the first few overs.

After getting set in the middle, the Zimbabwean launched the bowlers for fun. In the process, he ended up registering fifty to his name. The equation came down to 13 runs in the last over. The experienced batter was up against Ali Naseer, a talented young bowler in the making. When a six was required in the last ball, the PBKS finisher pulled off a maximum of a yorker to seal the game for his side.

“I said to myself, I don’t think he’ll go short. I just held my shape, tried to hit it in the air, and hit it as well as I can.,” said Raza after the heroics. “He showed his true character and skill. We just had to hang in there, and he took us home,” Raza’s teammate Sam Billings said.
