Rohit Sharma and his men registered a thumping victory over Sri Lanka on 17 September in the final of the Asia Cup 2023. Thus, Rohit won this title for the second time as a skipper as he won it last time in 2018. But, after the win, when he attended the press conference, the Team India skipper came up with an epic request for fans.

During the conference, he had to take a pause as firecrackers were heard bursting outside to celebrate the victory of the Men in Blue. Hearing that, Rohit said: “Arre World Cup jeetne ke baad phodo yeh sab (Burst all this after we win the World Cup)”. Such a witty request left all the reporters in the room in splits.

Here is the shared video:

Rohit Sharma has never won an ODI World Cup

Meanwhile, it was India’s bowlers who ran carnage in the final as the Lankans got bundled out for just 50 runs. Mohammed Siraj took six wickets while Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya took one and three wickets each. Regarding that performance, Rohit lauded the bowlers and shared his views during the post-match presentation ceremony.

He said: “It was a great performance, especially to come and play like that in a final. Shows the mentality of the team. Our seamers are actually working really hard for many years, so it’s pleasing for the side to see them rewarded like that. Very clinical. A performance like that will be cherished for a very long time.”

However, Team India will begin their ODI World Cup campaign on 8 October in Chennai against Australia. Now, before that, they will play a three-match home ODI series against the Aussies. After that, they are scheduled to play two warm-up games. First, they will take on England on 30 September at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. Then, on 3 October, they will play against the Netherlands at the Greenfield International Stadium.
