For the first time in his career, Sharma is leading the team in an ODI World Cup. He made his debut in the tournament eight years back, having missed out in 2011. In only his third World Cup, the team has reached the final under his leadership. For the first time after 2011, the Men In Blue will play the summit clash.
In 2015 and 2019, they lost the semis to Australia and New Zealand respectively. This time around, the Asian side took revenge for the 2019 loss against the Blackcaps in the ongoing edition’s first semifinal on November 15. Talking about the final between India and Australia, the last time both teams played each other in an ODI World Cup final was 20 years back.
In that game, the Kangaroos won the game by more than 120 runs. Also, in June this year, both teams played each other in the World Test Championship 2023 final. Once again, the Aussies won by a massive margin. The Asian side would like to avenge both losses on November 19 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
