Watch: Rahul Dravid applauds Yashasvi Jaiswal for brilliant half-century during 1st Test vs WI

On 13 July 2023, all eyes were Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma when both came out to bat on day two of the ongoing first Test against West Indies in Dominica. On day one, both batters remained not out and they started the proceedings on the next day. Jaiswal was on 40* runs while Rohit was on 30* runs. 

But, during the first session of day two, Jaiswal did not disappoint his fans and the team management as he hit his maiden fifty on his debut innings. After reaching the milestone, Jaiswal was seen with a calm celebration and then, the head coach, Rahul Dravid was seen applauding his knock.

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored fifty off 104 balls

Speaking of the video, it happened during the 33rd over of the innings. Alzarri Joseph was bowling and on the second delivery, he bowled a short ball. Jaiswal pulled that delivery and smashed a boundary. With that boundary, he reached fifty off 104 balls. The dressing room looked happy as players like Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Virat Kohli were also seen applauding the knock from the debutant.

Before the clash, skipper Rohit Sharma was hopeful for a show from Jaiswal. He claimed that a top left-handed batter was desperately needed for Team India and confirmed that Jaiswal has looked to be very promising so far. Notable, against his franchise, Mumbai Indians (MI), Jaiswal hit a century in the IPL 2023. He said: “Indian cricket desperately needed a left-hander and we found a very good player. Looks very promising.” 

Speaking of the match, Rohit also hit a fifty and after the first session on day two, India reached 146 runs without losing a single wicket. At the time of this writing, India scored 189 runs for no loss in 66 overs. Jaiswal was batting on 91* runs while skipper Rohit was batting on 82* runs. Thus, the Men in Blue also gained a lead of 39 runs with all 10 wickets in hand.
