Two games were scheduled for Saturday, 26 August, in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023. The first game saw the St Lucia Kings thrash the Trinbago Knight Riders by 54 runs. Sikandar Raza remained the ‘Player of the Match’ with an impressive all-round performance. He scalped 2/31 while bowling whereas he added a handy 32 off 23 with the bat. Skipper Faf du Plessis scored a half-century – 57 off 36 as the team reached 167/5.
In reply, the Knight Riders were bowled out for 113 with Mark Deyal (33 off 19) and skipper Kieron Pollard (34 off 15) remaining the only batter to score more than 15 runs. Khary Pierre remained the pick of the bowlers with 4/20. Roston Chase scalped two so did Raza. In the end, the Kings lodged a 54-run victory. However, the show had only started on the doubleheader day in CPL.
Patriots and Royals faced off in the day’s second game in CPL
The second game saw the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots set the Barbados Royals a target of 198 runs in 20 overs, losing six wickets on the way. Andre Fletcher (51 off 38), Sherfane Rutherford (28 off 20), Dominic Drakes (20 off 14) and Corbin Bosch (38 off 12) remained the key contributors. In reply, the Royals chased the target down with 9 balls to spare. Opener Rahkeem Cornwall got his team off to a great start with 38 off 15. Cornwall aside, Kyle Myers (31 off 17), Jason Holder (24 off 20), Alick Athanaze (30 off 28) and skipper Rovman Powell (67 off 29) remained the key contributors in the run chase. Qais Ahmed dropped a spectacular spell of 2/16 in his four overs that won him the ‘Player of the Match’ award. However, fans believed that the Royals skipper deserved the honour more.
