WATCH: Mushfiqur Rahim’s bizarre dismissal, becomes first Bangladesh batter to be dismissed for obstructing field

New Zealand and Bangladesh are clashing against each other in the 2nd match of the 2-match Test series at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Wednesday, December 6. The first match was won by the Bangla Tigers and they will eye to clean sweep the Blackcaps.

Meanwhile, in the midst of the first innings of the match, Mushfiqur Rahim, the former captain of Bangladesh, experienced a lapse in judgment when he instinctively used his hands to push the ball away after a defensive shot. This incident marked Rahim as the first Bangladeshi player to be declared out for handling the ball. The on-field umpires consulted the third umpire, who, upon reviewing the replays, confirmed the offence and signalled Rahim’s departure from the crease.

Rahim was charged with intentionally obstructing the ball. While he wasn’t at risk of being bowled by Kyle Jamieson’s delivery, a momentary lapse in concentration seemed to be the cause of this peculiar incident. The dismissal occurred at a score of 35 runs, comprising 3 fours and 1 six.

Brilliant bowling performance by New Zealand

Talking about the match so far, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first, however, their decision proved wrong as they lost their 4 wickets on the score of just 47 runs. Rahim and Shahadat Hossain tried to steady the innings as they stitched up a 57-run stand for the 5th wicket.

However, after Rahim’s bizarre dismissal, the Bangla Tigers started losing wickets at a regular intervals of time. The New Zealand spinners have displayed a brilliant bowling performance and at the time of writing, they are on 149 for 8 wickets. Mitchell Santner has picked up 3 wickets while Glenn Phillips and Ajaz Patel have picked up 2 wickets each.
