Kevin Sinclair claimed a sensational catch to dismiss Marnus Labuschagne in the second Test against Australia. The WI fielder was brilliant in the slip cordon in the match and helped the visiting side to claim the early lead in the match. On the 2nd day of the 2nd Test at the Gabba, the play was shared between the two sides after the home side made a terrific comeback.

As Kemar Roach bowled a back-of-a-length delivery to Marnus Labuschagne, the batter tried to defend the ball. However, there was some extra bounce off the surface which meant that there was an error in judgement from the batter. As a result, Marnus could not middle the ball and in the process, the ball took the edge of the Australian number three’s willow.

The ball travelled towards the 3rd slip region where Sinclair was stationed. However, the ball did not travel straight towards the hands of the fielder. It went towards the right of the fielder. Given the difficulty of taking catches in the slip cordon, it was not expected that the fielder would end up claiming the catch. However, the fielder surprised everyone with his efforts.

Australia recovers well after early collapse

The fielder put a diving effort to approach the ball. Kevin was not just successful in reaching close to the ball but ensured that he ended up grabbing the ball with a stunning catch. The fielding unit was pumped up by the dismissal. It led to a rewarding spell for Kemar in which he claimed three wickets to reduce Australia to a score of just 39/4 at one stage.

From that stage, Australia ended up scoring a total of 289 runs for the loss of eight wickets before declaring the innings. With just a few minutes for the day to end and with a score of 22 runs yet to be chased in the first innings to even out the things, Pat Cummins pushed hard for an interesting declaration. The match is in a good situation with both the teams having a chance to win.
