For the first time in the history of the Asian Games 2023, the India cricket team participated in the tournament as the game made its comeback. A few years back, the game made its debut in what is supposed to be a competition meant for shorter-span sports. Meanwhile, the Men In Blue played the tournament for the first time. In the last few years, the Indian board had their apprehensions regarding this tournament.

Meanwhile, as the Asian side is one of the top teams in the world, they were seeded directly for the quarterfinal alongside Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. On the other hand, teams such as Nepal, Mongolia, Hong Kong, etc were playing Group games. Talking about India’s journey, they started against Nepal, a team that scored 300 runs in T20I cricket for the first time.

In the game, the Men In Blue amassed 200-plus runs with Yashasvi Jaiswal getting his maiden Asian Games cricket. Despite the Nepalese fighting back, they ended up losing the game by 25-odd runs. In the semis against Bangladesh, the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side chased down 90 runs in just nine overs with Tilak Varma hitting a quick fifty. It seemed as if both teams batted on a different surface altogether.

On the other hand, Afghanistan did the unthinkable as they beat Pakistan in the second semis. With this, India and Afghanistan played each other in the summit clash of any sport for the first time.

In the summit clash, India decided to bowl first after winning the toss. After all, it was a rain-impacted game. The way the pitch reacted, it looked like a 130-140 wicket. The Afghans reached 112/5 in 18.2 overs, the rain was stopped due to rain.

After a long delay, it was decided that the game couldn’t be completed. With India being seeded high than Afghans, they won the Gold medal. After the game, players such as Arshdeep Singh, Ravi Bishnoi, and Avesh Khan sang ‘Lehra Do’ song from ’83 The Film’ starring Ranveer Singh, and Deepika Padukone.
