Star Australian batter Glenn Maxwell has started his 2024 just from where he left off last year. After having a successful international stint with the Australian Cricket Team, Maxwell is currently leading the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League 2023–24. Showcasing his amazing all-round abilities, Maxwell led the Stars from the front as they beat the Melbourne Renegades by 8 wickets.

While chasing a below-average total of 97/7, the Stars had a great run chase. Skipper Maxwell played a blistering 15-ball, 32-run knock to get his team to the winning side. After a poor start, Maxwell and Thomas Rogers added an unbeaten 48 runs for the third wicket. However, what made the highlights were Maxwell’s new scoring shots.

Known for his amazing sweeps, Maxwell played some electrifying shots that one can’t find in cricketing books. While trying to steal runs all around the ground, Maxwell smashed an orthodox shot so perfectly that it left everyone in awe.

Glenn Maxwell shines with the bowl too

Earlier, in the rain-affected game, Maxwell won the toss and opted to bowl first. His decision went well with the team, as the Renegades failed to cross the 100-run mark. The team posted just 97 runs after losing seven wickets in 14 overs. Apart from wicketkeeper batter Quinton de Kock, not a single batter crossed the 20-run mark as the Stars shined with spin bowlers.

De Kock, in his inning, scored 23 runs off 16 balls with the help of three fours and a six. Apart from him, Jack Fraser-McGurk (14) and Mackenzie Harvey (18) also made significant contributions. For the Stars, Maxwell has been phenomenal with the ball, taking a wicket while giving up just eight runs in three overs. Daniel Lawrence, with two wickets in two overs, also shined with the ball. It’s worth noting that with this win, the Melbourne Stars strengthen their position at number 3 in the points table, while the Renegades continue to be at the lowest point.
