In a splendid farewell at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), David Warner expressed pride as he bid farewell to Test cricket, coinciding with Australia’s impressive 3-0 series victory against Pakistan. Reflecting on the team’s outstanding accomplishments in the last 18 months, Warner praised the squad’s exceptional performances, encompassing victories in the World Test Championship, a drawn Ashes series, and a triumph in the World Cup.

Discussing the outstanding collective effort of the team, Warner particularly praised the trio of fast bowlers and Mitchell Marsh, identifying them as the team’s “engine room.” The legendary batter also highlighted their unwavering work ethic, both in the gym and on the field, recognizing their exceptional skills. Warner even humorously admitted his reluctance to face them in the nets.

Going down the memory lane, the star Australian opener shared his insights about his relaxing morning routine on the decisive day of the Test match. He even said he was thankful for the consistent support from the home crowd throughout his career, Warner conveyed his appreciation to the fans for their incredible backing.

Underlining the entertaining nature of cricket, Warner stressed that players are essentially in the “entertainment business.” He reiterated his dedication to presenting an exhilarating brand of cricket, grounded in the style he initially introduced to the Twenty20 format. As he steps back from red-ball cricket, Warner recognises the emotional weight of the moment, especially as he observes the upcoming series against the West Indies from the sidelines.

“We are in the entertainment business, happy to come out here and showcase what I try to do all the time. I started with Twenty20, tried to come here and emulate that, tried to play my shots and managed to get a win on the board,” Warner said.

Additionally, the 37-year-old acknowledged his family, giving credit to his parents and wife Candice for their steadfast support and the nurturing atmosphere they created. Expressing appreciation to Candice for keeping him grounded, Warner treasured every moment spent with his family.

“We’ve had a beautiful family. I cherish every moment I get with them. Thank you, Candice, for what you’ve done, you mean the world to me and I appreciate it,” he said.

Warner even urged young aspiring cricketers to emulate his path and persist in playing the red-ball game, viewing it as the pinnacle in the purest form of the sport. Furthermore, he encouraged the youngsters to exert effort and engage in entertaining play, similar to his own approach.
