On 21 September 2023, Tinbago Knight Riders (TKR) locked horns with Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) in the qualifier 1 of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) in Providence. In the group stage, GAW finished at the top while TKR were the second-best team. However, TKR managed a seven-wicket win and qualified for the final.

Chadwick Walton won the Player of the Match award for his match-winning 80* runs. He played some delightful shots all around the park; thus, a video went viral as fans shared their views on social media. Speaking of the match, the TKR skipper, Kieron Pollard won the toss and opted to bowl first.

Here is the shared video:

Chadwick Walton smashed six fours and four sixes in his innings

While batting first, GAW scored 166 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs. Saim Ayub was the highest scorer with 49 runs off 39 balls. In reply, Chadwick Walton remained not out on 80* runs off 57 balls as he guided TKR to the victory in just 18.1 overs with seven wickets in hand.

After winning the Player of the Match award, Walton said: “(On turning up in big games) First of all, I would like to say thanks to the players and coaches for having confidence in me. Treated this as just another game. It was an emotional half-century. Been a while since I got a fifty. Kudos to the guys who trusted me. (On how it feels to make the final) If we win the final, it will feel much better (smiles).”

Skipper, Pollard was also asked about the message before the chase and in reply to that, he spoke about the confidence they have in Walton. He said: “It was simple. If we batted well, we knew we would get there. They were 20-25 runs short. Walton coming in for Guptill, taking his chance, scoring 75 (80) and taking the chase through – that shows the confidence we have in him.” Now, TKR will be in action in the final on 25 September at the same venue against the winner of the qualifier 2, GAW vs JT.
