WATCH: Babar Azam hugging Shaheen Shah Afridi at his wedding ceremony, video goes viral

On 19 September 2023, Shaheen Shah Afridi married former Pakistan international, Shahid Afridi’s daughter, Ansha Afridi. But, from the wedding, a video went viral where the current Pakistan skipper and the number one-ranked ODI batter, Babar Azam was seen hugging Shaheen to congratulate him.

Seeing that video, Pakistan fans went over the moon as there were some rumours for the last couple of days regarding a possible rift between them. The Men in Green went to the Asia Cup 2023 as the favourites to win the title. But, in the ‘Super 4’ stage, India thrashed them with a heavy defeat while Sri Lanka won a thriller against them.

Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi will be key for Pakistan in the upcoming ODI World Cup

Hence, they got knocked out and failed to qualify for the final. Before the upcoming ODI World Cup, it was a setback for the current number-one-ranked ODI team in the world. Recently, according to the reports of Bolnews, Babar and Shaheen had a heated exchange between them in the dressing room after the Asia Cup exit. It also claimed that Babar asked players to play with more responsibility. In reply to that, Afridi asked Babar to appreciate those players atleast who had bowled or batted well. Then, Babar claimed that he knew who was playing or not and shared his displeasure with the interruption. Mohammad Rizwan came up and stopped the argument. 

Hearing such reports, fans were in complete disbelief as that might have affected the whole dressing room atmosphere before the World Cup. Meanwhile, Babar and his men are not scheduled to play any matches before the mega event. They will play only two warm-up clashes in Hyderabad and the first game is reportedly set to be played behind closed doors without any crowd due to security concerns. However, Shaheen also shared an image of him and Babar sitting together on social media with a caption written: ‘Family’. So, it seems that all the rumours of a rift between them are all gone now and they will be eager to perform well together for Pakistan in the World Cup.
