WATCH: Australia’s Grace Harris hits a six with broken bat during WBBL 2023
In the ongoing fifth game of the Women’s Big Bash League 2023, former champions Brisbane Heat and Perth Scorchers are locking horns. In the game, the Orange Army won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Heat opened the batting with middle-order player Grace Harris alongside wicketkeeper batter Georgia Redmayne. The former opened an attack on the Teal Brigade with the bat.
She hit 136 runs off just 59 balls including 12 fours and 11 sixes. Meanwhile, when she was batting on 70 off 35 balls in the 14th over of the first innings, she could be heard talking about needing a new bat. “Hey guys, I need a new bat!” “Stuff it, I’ll still hit it!”. However, while hitting one of the sixes, she broke her bat and the ball still traveled the journey

Talking about the game, thanks to Harris’ unbeaten innings, the two-time winners amassed 229/7 although no other batter even scored a fifty. The second-highest run-getter was Mignon du Preez (39). For the 2021-22 winners, Scorchers, Amy Edgar took three wickets. In reply, the likes of Beth Mooney (60) and Amy Jones (30) tried to help the team chase the target.
However, the target of 230 runs proved to be way too much for the team. Cortney Grace Sippel took a four-wicket haul in just the space of a few overs that changed the game completely. The 2021-22 winners were restricted to 179/8, losing the game by 50 runs.
