Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer is known for his witty and humorous social media presence, and he didn’t disappoint cricket fans when he took to the popular social media platform ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter) to troll former England captain Michael Vaughan after England’s embarrassing 69-run loss to Afghanistan in the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Vaughan, who is also renowned for his outspoken and sometimes controversial opinions, had been quite vocal about England’s chances in the tournament. However, their shocking defeat to the Afghan team left him vulnerable to some good-natured ribbing.

Jaffer’s tweet featured a clever play on words, saying, “Hope you’re ok @MichaelVaughan #ENGvAFG #CWC23.” He also posted a sweet and funny video of social media sensation Hasbulla whistling along with the tweet. Fans took notice of the tweet and shared their reactions to it.

Social media lit up with reactions from fans, many of whom found Jaffer’s banter to be a delightful way to add some humour to the game. In the ever-competitive world of cricket banter, Jaffer certainly scored a few points with his playful tweet. Vaughan hasn’t replied yet to Jaffer’s tweet but it would be interesting to see if the former English captain will respond or keep silent.

Brilliant bowling performance by Afghanistan

Talking about the contest between Afghanistan and England, the English side won the toss and elected to field first at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Sunday. However, the decision proved wrong initially as Afghanistan star opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz produced a destructive start to the team and stitched a 114-run stand for the first wicket with Ibrahim Zadran.

Adil Rashid provided the first breakthrough for England in the 17th over by dismissing Zadran and then the horrible batting collapse started. Gurbaz got run out after scoring 80 runs. However, Ikram Alikhil’s half-century helped Afghanistan to put up a fighting total of 284 runs.

The target looks short, considering the mighty batting lineup of England but one should not forget the magical spinning trio of Mohammad Nabi, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan. As expected, the spinning trio started trapping the English batters into their web.

England started losing wickets at regular intervals of time. Rashid and Mujeeb picked up 3 wickets each while Nabi took 2 wickets. Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naveen-ul-Haq also picked up 1 wicket each. However, Naveen’s wicket of Jos Buttler was a treat to watch as he delivered a jaw-dropping delivery to the English captain who got cleaned bowled by him. England fell short off 69 runs to the target.
