Sooraj Barjatya’s Uunchai was released in theatres today.

Synopsis: Uunchai tells the story of 4 friends Amit, Javed, Bhupen and Om. After the death of Bhupen, the other 3 decide to trek to the peak of the mega Mt. Everest since that was Bhupen’s last wish.

Pinkvilla gives Uunchai 3.5 stars out of 5.

According to Pinkvilla’s review, Sooraj Barjatya has been known to make movies which make you laugh, cry and smile in the same movie and that is exactly what he has done this time. Even though the director’s previous films have focused primarily on family and the importance of it, this film dives deeper into the content found in solitude and the importance of independence. The actors are seniors not only in age but also in their craft and that has been showcased throughout the movie. Although, Anupam Kher has the best character development in the story, you can’t miss the others. They make you believe in the characters they are playing in the movie.

Sooraj Barjatya weaves multiple sub plots in the movie but gives closure to each one of them. The movie is heavy on the emotional side but has it’s share of humor and fun moments. This movie is also visually breathtaking being shot at so many picturesque locations. The first half of the movie is pleasant to watch and the second half which leads to the emotional and dramatic climax has been well done too.

The only downfall is that the movie can be cut short by 20-25 mins. Some editing might have done good but that is a very minor issue. Apart from it, it’s a good watch for this weekend.

Here are some audience reviews;

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Yashoda also released today. Read the reviews!
