India’s star Javelin throwers, Neeraj Chopra and Kishore Kumar Jena have bagged medals in the ongoing Asian Games 2023. The former bagged a Gold medal, another one in his career since winning the Olympic 2021. Talking about the Indian Army Subedar’s performance in the Asian Games 2023 summit clash, he threw nearly 85 meters away. However, due to a technical glitch on the part of the officials, Chopra had to throw again.

However, despite being disappointed, the 25-year-old managed to throw as far as 82.38m and 84.49m in the next two throws. Chopra deliberately walked over the line after his third throw since it had not crossed the 80m mark. That led to it being declared a ‘no mark’. In his fourth throw, he managed to reach 88.88m, a season’s best, which was good enough to hold him seal gold.

Neeraj Chopra’s first throw was a very good throw: AFI

Meanwhile, after Chopra won Gold, the AFI president said that the first throw of the 2021 Olympic Gold medalist was a good one. The former also raised a question about why these things happen only to Indian athletes.

“Neeraj’s first throw was a very good throw. But they weren’t ready to measure it. Same thing also happened with Annu Rani (who won gold for India in women’s javelin throw event) yesterday. I don’t know why they are doing this with Indian athletes. They are trying to cheat us, disturb our athletes. Neeraj’s first throw was a very good one,” Anju Bobby George, who is a Senior Vice President Athletics Federation of India, told journalists after the event.

On the other hand, Chopra’s countryman and competitor, Kishore Kumar Jena won Silver. The latter took the lead with an 86.77m throw which was a personal best. Kishore’s third throw had come after there was another goof-up from the organizers, who initially red-flagged his second throw for crossing the throwing line.
