Nick Kyrgios is one of the most intriguing players in men’s tennis.

His talent was never a question mark but his temperament was.

However, in 2022, he seems to have found a way to channelise his inner potential.

The result is there for everyone to see!

On Sunday, on a particularly humid night at Arthur Ashe Stadium, he ousted world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev to reach the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open for the first time.

The final scoreline read 7-6 (13-11), 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

It was his second victory over the world No. 1 in 28 days.

While Medvedev is No. 1, Kyrgios is ranked No. 23 in the world.

Despite this, Kyrgios now leads their head-to-head record 4-1 and is playing the most consistent tennis of his career.

He reached his first Grand Slam singles final at Wimbledon in July, losing a close match to Novak Djokovic.

He also won the Citi Open in Washington, D.C. last month.

However, the icing on the cake was beating Medvedev in the second round of the National Bank Open in Montreal.

Based on his current form, many people are wondering if anybody can stop the Australian claiming a maiden grand slam title at the US Open.

Kyrgios will next face another Russian Karen Khachanov who defeated Spanish 12th seed Pablo Carreno Busta in a five-set thriller.

Many tennis legends have started raving about Kyrgios.

“I’m rating that as the best match I’ve seen Nick Kyrgios at a grand slam tournament,” said Aussie doubles maestro Todd Woodbridge.

“This was the biggest win,” said Jelena Dokic.

“That was not just great tennis, the serving display, but the mental strength.”

The match had a usual ‘Nick Kyrgios moment’ of madness.

Kyrgios ran around the net to hit a ball that was going to land way out.

He celebrated afterward by holding up a finger and smiling, apparently unaware of the rule that it’s illegal for players to cross the net!

He lost the point but thankfully won a lot of fans today!
