Unni Mukundan’s Marco Triumphs Despite Piracy Leak
Unni Mukundan’s Marco has emerged as one of 2024’s most talked-about Malayalam films. Directed by Haneef Adeni, the movie stands out for its gripping storytelling and intense action sequences. Touted as one of the most violent Indian films, Marco has captivated audiences and is performing impressively at the box office.
However, the film encountered a significant challenge when it was leaked online, raising concerns across the industry. Taking to social media, Unni Mukundan shared his disappointment and appealed to fans to avoid pirated versions. He expressed, “Please don’t watch pirated movies. We are helpless. I’m feeling helpless. Only YOU can stop this. By not watching/downloading the films online. It’s a request.”
His plea received support from fellow actor Prithviraj Sukumaran, who reshared the message on Instagram. Fans on X (formerly Twitter) also voiced their worries about increasing piracy in Mollywood, citing leaks of Marco and other films like SookshmaDarshini.
Despite this setback, Marco has witnessed remarkable box office success. Made on a ₹30 crore budget, the film was released on December 20 and has since amassed ₹42 crore in India. Its Hindi version gained traction, leading to an addition of 140 shows. Furthermore, the film is set to make history with a release in Korea, marking a significant achievement for South Indian cinema.
Unni Mukundan shared his excitement about the Korean release, stating, “MARCO Releasing in KOREA! After Bahubali, Marco sets a new Benchmark in South Indian Film Industry!”
The success of Marco highlights how strong content, a loyal fanbase, and global appeal can help a film overcome challenges like piracy, further cementing its place in cinematic history.
