Champions League: Milan keep hopes Alive, Jesus seals City win

AC Milan fans can hope to see their team’s Champions League journey extend to the next stage of the competition as Junior Messias scored his maiden goal for the club three minutes before the final whistle against Atletico Madrid.

Liverpool have already ensured qualification from Group B, but the race for the other spot remains wide open.

Atletico and Milan have the same points on the board, and Porto trail them by a point.

A win against Liverpool in their next match could send AC Milan through unless Atletico hand a hammering to Porto.

Gabriel Jesus completed Manchester City’s comeback with a 76th-minute strike and confirmed the Group A top spot with a match in hand.

The away team led through Kylian Mbappe five minutes after the interval, but their lead lasted less than 10 minutes as Raheem Sterling equalized for a Kevin de Bruyne-less Manchester City.

Dortmund exit

Borussia Dortmund got knocked out of the Champions League group stages after suffering yet another disappointing defeat.

For the second UCL match in a row, Borussia finished the game with 10-men, and the opponent took full advantage of it.

Pedro Gonclaves scored a brace as Sporting Lisbon cruised to a 3-1 victory over the Germans.

Sebastien Haller netted twice, taking his Champions League tally to nine goals, as Ajax Amsterdam secured the Group C top spot beating Besiktas 2-1 at the Vodafone Park.

Rachid Ghezzal scored from the penalty spot in the first half to give Besiktas a first-half lead.

Haller came in as a substitute in the second half to overturn the deficit and join Robert Lewandowski at the top of the Champions League goal-scorers list.

Inter beat Shaktar

Inter have almost confirmed their tickets for the Champions League knock-out stages with an Edin Dzeko-fueled 2-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk.

The former Manchester City striker scored twice to claim all three points for Inter. His second goal, which came through a header from an Ivan Perisic cross, was his 50th goal in European club competitions.

A routine Mohamed Salah goal and a thunderous strike from Thiago Alcantara were enough for Liverpool to see off Porto away from home.

Winning all five games in their group, Liverpool will progress to the next round as Group A champions while Porto, Atletico Madrid, and AC Milan are hopeful of snapping up the remaining spot.

RB Leipzig have already been eliminated from the Champions League group stage, but they are set for a Europa League berth after thrashing Club Brugge 5-0 at home.

Being drawn in a group that features Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig head coach Jesse Marsch will not be too disappointed finishing third and carrying on their European adventure in the Europa League.

Real Madrid too good for Sheriff

Sheriff Tiraspol failed to replicate their Santiago Bernabeu heroics in front of their own crowd, as Real Madrid picked up a routine 3-0 victory against Moldovan National Division outfit.

Karim Benzema set his legal troubles aside as he got his name on the score sheet alongside David Alaba and Toni Kroos.
