CPL 2021: Trinbago wreck Tallawahs

In one of the most lopsided encounters of the Caribbean Super League so far, Trinbago Knight Riders secured an emphatic win over Jamaica Tallawahs by 75 runs.

Ali Khan ripped through the Jamaican batting lineup as Trinbago Knight Riders secured a comfortable win over the Tallawahs.

Thanks to an outstanding batting display by Simmons, Pollard, and Seifert, the Riders got themselves to a competitive total of 167. 

With 168 runs to get, the Tallawahs were going nowhere in their innings as Ali Khan delivered with the ball.

Rovman Powell’s men could only survive 18.2 overs.

Simmons leads from the front

Lendl Simmons carried Trinbago Knight Riders in the entire innings.

The former West Indies international scored 42 runs off 39 balls, with three fours and one six.

He was caught and bowled by Brathwaite.

The other opener, Leonardo Julien never got going in his innings.

He could only score 17 runs off 25 balls before he fell to Permaul.

With a requirement of acceleration in the innings, Kieran Pollard stepped up as he has done so many times for Trinbago Knight Riders in this tournament.

The Riders captain scored a quick 39 runs off 18 balls, with 4 sixes and a four.

On the other hand, the Riders’ wicketkeeper, Seifert, also ensured maximum support for his captain as he scored 24 runs off 8 balls.

The wicketkeeper hit two fours and two sixes.

The quick-fire innings of Seifert and Pollard got the Riders up to a score of 167/4.

In the bowling department, Migael Pretorius had a day to forget as he leaked 55 runs in his four overs and only got one wicket.

Imad Wasim continued to show why he got selected in the World T20 squad for Pakistan as he conceded only 13 runs off his four overs and grabbed one wicket. 

The Khan show overwhelms Tallawahs

It was the Ali Khan show in the second innings.

The American fast bowler completely extinguished the Jamaican run chase as he took the wickets of both the openers to put his side on the brink of winning.

Haider Ali and Kenner Lewis both got caught behind on Ali Khan’s bowling.

Just a few balls after the Lewis dismissal, another one fell prey to Ali Khan as Brooks was sent back to the pavilion. 

Tallawahs saw three of their batsmen gone with a score of only 9.

Imad Wasim did try to rescue some pride back for Tallawahs but he was soon sent back by Rampaul.

The Pakistani all-rounder scored 11 runs off 7 balls.

The skipper, Rovman Powell was the only shining light of a failed run chase as he scored 22 runs off 20 balls, with a couple of boundaries to his name.

His innings gave the Tallawahs fans something to cheer about.

There were only positives if you want to talk about the bowling side. Jamaica Tallawahs got bowled out for 92, with 10 bowls to spare. 

Ali Khan bagged 4 wickets and conceded just 6 runs in his 3 overs.

Ravi Rampaul was a bit more expensive than he would have liked. However, he did do the job when required and grabbed a couple of wickets.

Sunil Narine was another one who grabbed a couple to ensure that Tallawahs never stood a chance in this match. 

Trinbago Knight Riders 167 for 4 (Simmons 42, Pollard 39*, Imad 1-13, Braithwaite 1-16) beat Jamaica Tallawahs 92 (Powell 22, Braithwaite 14, Ali Khan 4-6, Narine 2-11) by 75 runs.
