Two new teams have been added to this year’s IPL so there will be a total of 10 teams fighting for the title in IPL 2022.

Lucknow and Ahmedabad are the two new franchises of IPL and both the teams have announced their draft picks before the mega auction.

The star bowler Rashid Khan, Shubman Gill, and Hardik Pandya will be playing for Ahmedabad while KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis, and Ravi Bishnoi will represent the Lucknow franchise.

Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul will be leading the two new teams this season.

The other eight teams have also retained some players before the auction.

Four teams have retained 4 while the remaining 4 teams have retained 3 or less than 3 players in their squads.

There were many outstanding performances especially from the batters in IPL 2021.

However, only some of these batters could make the retention list.

In this article, we will take a brief look at the top four batters who have managed to force their franchisees to retain them due to their excellent performances in the past seasons.

Number 4: Venkatesh Iyer

Venkatesh Iyer emerged as an excellent all-rounder by surprising everyone with his performances both with the bat and bowl in the UAE-leg of last year’s IPL season.

He scored 370 runs in just 10 matches at an average of 41.11 as an opener.

Iyer is known as a part-time bowler and picked up three wickets with the best figures of 2/29.

He thrashed four half-centuries in IPL 2021 and played a key role in taking his side to the IPL final.

Venkatesh Iyer was picked in the T20I squad for the series in New Zealand last year.

He was also of the Indian ODI squad that played a series against South Africa recently.

Owing to his strong performances, Iyer has been retained by Kolkata Knight Riders for the upcoming season.

Number 3: Prithvi Shaw

Prithivi Shaw was a part of the Delhi Franchise in last year’s IPL season and the right-handed opener played aggressive cricket throughout the tournament.

Shaw provided a quick and flying start to his side in the whole season.

Prithivi Shaw smashed 479 runs in 15 games at an average of 31.93.

He was the seventh-best run-getter in IPL 2021.

Due to his unreal talent and form, the Delhi Capital’s management has decided to retain him for the coming season.

Number 2: Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell was a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore camp in the 2021 IPL season.

Maxwell smoked 513 runs in 15 games at an average of 42.75.

He played a big role in getting the RCB to the playoffs stage.

Maxwell was named in the retention list of Bangalore along with Virat Kohli and pacer Mohammed Siraj.

Number 1: Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad was the star performer with the bat in IPL 2021.

He scored 635 runs at an average of over 45.30 in the season.

Gaikwad was also Orange cap winner of the previous season because no one had scored more runs than him.

He was the biggest reason for the victory of the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2021.

He scored 4 fifties and a wonderful hundred in the season and that’s why CSK has retained him in this season.
