West Indies has scripted history at The Gabba. The visiting side has managed to beat Australia in a Test match for the first time since 1997 in Australia. They have also won at The Gabba for the first time since 1988. In the process, WI became the 1st team to beat Australia in a Pink Ball Day-Night Test match. To do it in their backyard is an amazing feat.

Australia needed 216 runs in the 2nd innings to win the match. Shamar Joseph was so resilient with the ball and became instrumental in the win of the WI. Before he could do it, the likes of Joshua Da Silva and Kavem Hodge rescued WI on the 1st day of the Test. From 64/5 at one stage, WI ended up scoring 311 runs in the 1st innings. Da Silva and Hodge scored 79 and 71 runs respectively.

Kevin Sinclair also scored fifty with the bat. Kemar Roach and Alzarri Joseph were brilliant with the ball in the 1st innings. The duo had Australia at 54/5 at one stage. But the trio of Usman Khawaja, Alex Carey, and Pat Cummins helped the home side to stay alive in the match with their batting performances. Cummins opted for an interesting declaration when Australia were 289/8.

Shamar Joseph the hero of the West Indies

West Indies had a slender lead of 22 runs. They scored 193 runs in the 2nd innings and gave a target of 216 runs for the home side to chase. It was not going to be easy for the home side. It looked tricky when Australia lost two wickets for 54 runs at the end of the 3rd day. Steve Smith was the only batter who seemed threatening for the West Indies in the 2nd innings.

Eventually, Smith ended up carrying the bat for his side in the losing cause. The collapse of Australia began with the wicket of Cameron Green. Shamar delivered fantastic deliveries to dismiss the Australian batters. He ended up finishing with a 7-wicket haul, which ensured that Australia lost the Test match by just 8 runs in the end.
