The Hundred 2024: New rules and regulations announced ahead of tournament’s fourth edition
The Hundred, England’s premier franchise cricket tournament, is gearing up for another exciting season. The fourth edition of both men’s and women’s competitions will be held in the summer 2024. Meanwhile, some significant rules and regulations regarding women players’ salaries and player retention have been changed ahead of the tournament.
Each team has been allocated an extra £100,000 to increase pay in The Hundred Women. This equates to £50,000 for the top slots and £8,000 for the lower tiers. The new salary bands reflect a commitment to recognising and rewarding talent.
Meanwhile, the selection process evolved with retention and The Hundred Draft, exclusive avenues for team composition. Notably, teams can retain a maximum of eight players, leaving two of the three minimum salary slots open for the exciting Wildcard Draft.
What are the changes in the men’s competition?
Coming to the men’s competition, the same salary structure as the 2023 season has been retained but will see a transformation in the selection mechanism. Teams will be allowed to retain one player as their nominated Central Contract player – a 16th squad member on a salary of £125,000. The move, which gives teams a unique advantage, follows an increase in the number of England Men Centrally Contracted players.
It is noteworthy that teams are given the option to retain players from the Centrally Contracted England Men’s roster as domestic players. Meanwhile, in the absence of a retained nominated Central Contract player, a central contract player draft ensures an even distribution across teams. The maximum retention limit is ten players per team, with two of the three lowest salary slots open for a Wildcard Draft.
These new rules and regulations promise a competitive environment for players and fans alike as the upcoming season is just months away. Southern Brave women emerged as title holders for the 2023 season while Oval Invincibles won the men’s version.
