‘Super Kings everywhere’ – Fans react as Texas Super Kings thrash Los Angeles Knight Riders by 69 run in MLC opening match

The inaugural match of the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023 was played between Texas Super Kings (TSK) and Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on Thursday, July 13. The American crowd witnessed a good quality of cricket as TSK thrashed the LAKR by 69 runs and start the MLC campaign with a convincing victory.

Talking about the match, LAKR won the toss and opted to bowl first. Initially, the decision proved right for them as they dismissed the TSK skipper Faf du Plessis on a golden duck. However, opener Devon Conway, who did wonders for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, continued his form and played a brilliant knock of 55 runs which came off just 37 balls.

David Miller made full use of the foundation set by Conway and smashed a magnificent half-century to help his team to achieve a fighting total of 181 runs. Chasing the target, LAKR started horribly as they lost their first 4 wickets on the score of just 20 runs. No other batter except Andre Russel could contribute anything to the scoreboard.

Russel scored 55 runs off 34 balls which included 7 fours and 3 sixes. However, he couldn’t do much as Dwayne Bravo got him in the 13th over. In the end, Mohammad Mohsin destroyed LAKR’s lower order and picked 4 wickets while conceding only 8 runs in 3 overs. TSK skipper Du Plessis expressed his joy of winning the opening match in the post-match interview.

“Really pleased with the win. Good to see the local boys perform. Overseas players can win you a game but you always need the local boys to step up. He (Coetzee) is a really exciting talent. One of the talents that can play all formats. Good to see him playing T20 cricket around the world. The Super Kings’ friends and family always come to support us wherever we play. To see a full house here in America, thank you everyone for turning up.” Faf was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
