Australia secured a 3-wicket victory against South Africa in the 2nd semi-final of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 16. The Kangaroos will now face host nation India in the final on November 19 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad

Meanwhile, after the game, Australia’s veteran batter Steve Smith conversed with former Australian players Aaron Finch and Shane Watson. During this, Watson, inquiring about the final, asked, “How will Australia defeat India?” However, Smith came up with an unexpected response, “Good question,” which left a momentary silence among them.

However, Smith then gave a stretched response to Watson and admitted uncertainty, praising India’s prowess with 10 wins and a formidable bowling attack. He expressed the team’s intent to deliver a strong performance in the final. “I really don’t know. They are the best team and have won 10 matches. India have a strong bowling attack. We will try to give a good performance against them,” Smith was quoted as saying by Crictoday.

It was the game of the tournament for me: Wasim Akram

Meanwhile, former legendary Pakistani pacer Wasim Akram talked about the thrilling 2nd semi-final and said that it was the best game of the ODI World Cup 2023 so far. He emphasised the excitement in a close game with a balance favoring bowlers. Disagreement is expected from colleagues, but he dislikes high-scoring matches.

“It was the game of the tournament for me. There was passion, thrill and it went close. My colleagues Misbah-ul-Haq, Shoaib Malik, and Moin Khan will differ from me, but it is good to watch a game where the bowlers had more than the batters. I don’t like watching 350-400 runs ODIs. I am not fond of high-scoring T20Is. My colleagues were saying that scored 300 runs and won the game after winning the toss. But look what happened in the contest,” Akram said.
