Sri Lanka faced a challenging journey in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, securing victories only against Netherlands and England during the tournament. The team, which had won the championship in 1996, encountered a series of injuries both before and throughout the event, necessitating replacements from outside the original squad.

Adding to the setbacks, skipper Dasun Shanaka suffered an injury midway through the campaign, leading to a change in captaincy as Kusal Mendis assumed the leadership. As of now, Sri Lanka holds the ninth position in the points table, and their final ranking will be determined by the outcomes of other matches in the group stage.

Meanwhile, in a surprising turn of events, the Apex Cricket Council has suspended the Sri Lankan Board. The entire Board was already sacked by the Sri Lankan government. However, it seems now that the trouble is not going to decrease

“The Apex Cricket body met today and determined that Sri Lanka Cricket is in serious breach of its obligations as a Member, in particular, the requirement to manage its affairs autonomously and ensure that there is no government interference in the governance, regulation and/or administration of cricket in Sri Lanka,” Apex Cricket body was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Sri Lanka’s horrible performance against India in World Cup

The national cricket team of Sri Lanka faced mounting criticism following a dismal performance against India in Mumbai, where they were bowled out for a mere 55 during the run chase. This defeat came on the heels of another disheartening loss to India in the Asia Cup, where Sri Lanka suffered a crushing blow by being dismissed for a paltry 50 runs in the final match held on September 17.

The consecutive setbacks intensified scrutiny of the team’s batting prowess, prompting questions about their preparedness and ability to compete at the international level. The disappointing displays raised concerns among fans and analysts about the team’s overall form and strategy.
