Spinner Kumar Kartikeya meets mother after 9 years!

This is the most unreal story about sporting dedication.

We are talking about Mumbai Indians’ spinner Kumar Kartikeya here.

Apparently, Kartikeya had left his home in Kanpur in order to chase his cricketing dream.

In fact, he made a promise to his family that he won’t return home before making a name for himself!

While it’s ok to make pledges like these, it’s quite unbelievable to see this pledge actually getting implemented, in toto.

But that’s exactly that happened.

Kumar finally returned home after a span of 9 years and 3 months after completing his promise.

The journey was anything but easy.

In 2013, he moved to Delhi as the city had better cricketing facilities than Kanpur.

There, he met Dronacharya Award-winning cricket coach, Sanjay Bhardwaj, who runs the LB Shastri Cricket Club.

When Kartikeya was struggling, Sanjay provided him coaching for free and helped him in getting the other amenities as well.

Apparently, the cricketer used to walk miles to save money to buy a pack of biscuits.

Once, he even had tears in his eyes when his coach Sanjay allowed him to stay at the academy and served him lunch.

The bowler made his first-class debut in 2018, bowling traditional left-arm spin.

However, it wasn’t until Mumbai Indians signed him midway through IPL 2022 that he switched to bowling left-arm wrist spin.

That’s when his career took off.

In 2022, Kumar finally got his opportunity in the IPL, where he played in four games for the Mumbai Indians.

He made his debut in a high-pressure match against Chennai Super Kings.

He did well for MI in the 4 games that he got, picking up five wickets at an economy of 7.86.

Kartikeya could not go back home even after MI’s campaign in IPL 2022 came to an end as he went to play the Ranji Trophy 2022 Final for Madhya Pradesh versus Mumbai.

He finished as the 2nd highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 32 wickets, picking up five wickets in the final as well.

However, he finally reached home on 3 August 2022, and he posted a pic of the same on Twitter with his mother.

This was Kartikey’s homecoming after 9 years and 3 months.

“Met my family and mumma ❤️ after 9 years 3 months. Unable to express my feelings,” Kumar Kartikeya tweeted.

Kartikeya has played in 12 first-class, 19 List A and 12 T20s so far in his career, where he has scalped a total of 87 wickets.

The journey has just begun for the left-arm spinner.
