The song “Abundance in Millets,” featuring Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has received a surprising nod at the upcoming 2024 Grammy Awards. The song, nominated in the prestigious Best Global Music Performance category, is a collaborative creation by Falu (Falguni Shah) and Gaurav Shah.

Both the composition and lyrics of the song are credited to Falu and Gaurav, with additional contributions from Kenya Autie, Greg Gonzalez, and Soumya Chatterjee. Kenya Autie has also taken charge of producing the accompanying music video.

The visually compelling music video vividly portrays the cultivation of millets in India, shedding light on its potential to address hunger-related challenges. Beyond that, the song advocates for widespread millet consumption, emphasising its nutritional benefits for individuals from diverse backgrounds.

The nominated song stands out with a meaningful message

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s quotes featured in the song underscore the importance of integrating millets into daily life, not only for personal health benefits but also to support the nation’s farmers. Competing against formidable contenders in the category, such as Burna Boy and Davido, the nomination recognizes the unique fusion of music and social advocacy in “Abundance in Millets,” making it a standout piece with a meaningful message.

“Abundance in Millets” was crafted to commemorate the ‘International Year of the Millets.’ Details about the song can be found on Falu’s website, “The Indian government submitted the proposal, acknowledging India as one of the largest producers of the supergrain, which was supported by 72 countries and United Nation’s General Assembly.”

“Millets are small-grained, annual, warm-weather cereals belonging to the grass family cultivated mainly in India. For centuries, millets were the staples in India but gradually were relegated to the background and got marginalized post green revolution as the emphasis shifted to increased food grain production & productivity using high yielding varieties of wheat & rice. Abundance in Millets was created to raise awareness of the supergrain as another potential key to minimizing world hunger.” quoted by Hindustan Times.
