Former ODI World Cup winner, Pakistan has arrived in Ahmedabad for their ODI WC 2023 game against arch-rivals, India. After their arrival, the players were welcomed (a customary thing for every team during the ongoing tournament). However, after the video was posted by the Pakistan Cricket Board, the fans were angered about the warm welcome. Apparently, this was triggered due to the unfortunate killing of two Indian soldiers a month back.

On 13/9/2017, a day after India beat Sri Lanka to reach the final of the Asia Cup 2023, Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish, Deputy Superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police Humayun Bhat were critically injured in the gunfight and died later. Along with the other officers, the late soldiers were having a gunfight with the terrorists in the J&K. At that time, the calls for Pakistan’s boycott during the CWC23 were made but to no avail.

However, after the warm welcome of the Pakistani players, the voices were raised once again. This is happening a day ahead of the match at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

India have had an edge over Pakistan in ODI World Cups

Meanwhile, talking about the India-Pakistan rivalry, the Men In Blue have been unbeaten in the ODI World Cups. They started playing each other in 1992. Since then, they only came close to winning in the 1999 and 2011 games. However, India managed to get past their opposition too. In the T20 World Cup, they had an unbeaten record before Pakistan turned over India in 2021.

However, exactly 364 days later, India managed to resume normal services. In the ODI WCs, the Shaheens are yet to do so. Both teams are coming off two back-to-back wins in the ongoing tournament. While Pakistan beat the Netherlands and Sri Lanka, India beat Australia and Afghanistan.
