Shocking: Will frustrated Ansu Fati leave Barcelona and join Real Madrid?
Ansu Fati’s father Bori Fati has slammed FC Barcelona in an explosive interview on Spanish radio.
Senior Fati revealed that he has encouraged his son to leave the club.
Ansu Fati broke through to the Barca first team as a 16-year-old in 2019 and smashed a number of youngest appearance maker and goalscorer records.
However, injuries have blighted his progress post-pandemic.
Currently, the youngster is struggling for a place in head coach Xavi Hernandez’s first XI as the Catalans top La Liga by 12 points.
As per rumours, Bori Fati met with the club and blasted them for treating his son shoddily.
He let rip at Barcelona and revealed his frustrations at his son’s lack of game time at the Camp Nou.
Bori Fati stressed that he was happy with how is son is working, reminding the world of how Ansu has “been in the elite for four years now” and attesting that the Guinea-born sensation is “super well”, physically speaking.
Perhaps because of these factors, Bori Fati said that “it bothers me how they are treating Ansu”.
“They give him one, two and three minutes [at the end of games]. I am very disappointed, Ansu deserved much more,” Bori Fati added.
The striker’s dad says that if it were up to him he’d make sure Ansu leaves Barca this summer.
“Ansu does not want to leave Barcelona but I want to see him succeed,” he said.
“I won’t go to the stadium anymore, I’m very angry with the club. In a month we will meet with Jorge Mendes, for sure.
“It bothers me that Ansu plays so little. We’re talking about a player that is a Spain international and came from La Masia. He deserves much more than that.”
Injuries have disrupted Fati’s career and he’s found it difficult to regain his top form. Yet his father says he has no idea why Xavi is not playing the youngster more often.
“I don’t know why Xavi does not play Ansu. He must have his reasons. Ansu is not disgusted with him as Xavi was always his idol. But me… I am very angry as a father,” he said.
“Mateu Alemany tells me that Ansu is part of the club’s heritage. As a father, I have told Ansu that it is better for him to leave. But Ansu has told me that he does not agree with me on this. He wants to stay.
“If it was up to me, I would leave Barcelona tomorrow. I told Ansu that if the situation didn’t change, we would have to leave, but he tells me that I’m wrong.”
Bori Fati also clarified that Ansu is “not upset with Xavi”, who he idolises, but stressed that he is angry as a father and “very sad” – which has prompted him not to go the stadium and see Barca in action anymore.
“Xavi is a good guy,” Bori Fati said.
“He spoke to me two to three times and he’s very nice. He gave him specific work, and it has helped him a lot.”
“I’m angry, it’s true. As a father, I see Ansu [playing] for a short time and it p*sses me off but I think as a father, not as a coach.”
The club wants to keep Ansu but his agent Jorge Mendes has offers to take him away from Catalonia.
“I have told Ansu that it is better for him to have a change of scenery,” Bori Fati said. “[But] Ansu does not agree with me. He wants to stay and succeed at FC Barcelona.”
Saying that he will meet Mendes in a month and that he wants his son “to triumph”, Bori Fati risked enraging Barca fans by not ruling out a move to bitter rivals Real Madrid.
“I’m not going to criticize Real Madrid because life takes many turns and you never know what can happen,” said Fati.
He also chided his son for being “asleep” and not listening to him because of the size of Barca as a club.
This talk of a move to Real Madrid is shocking for die-hard Barcelona fans.
Ansu hasn’t found the net in the Spanish top-flight since the 3-0 win over Villarreal back in October,
As with every goalscorer, however, the longer the monkey is on your back, the harder it becomes to shake off.
Only time will tell which way Ansu Fati’s destiny will play out!
