‘Share market main list kara do IPL ko…’ – Fans react as IPL witnesses 80 percent growth in its brand value
The brand value of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen a jump this year compared to 2022. Last year, it was valued at 14,688 crores INR. This time around, it is valued at 26,438 crores INR. The study has been done by the Global investment bank Houlihan Lokey, Inc. The results were issued on Monday, July 10. The company advises corporations regarding financial reporting, tax, and strategic planning initiatives.
They also consult on purchase price allocation (valuation of all acquired assets and liabilities), equity valuations for stock, and tax entity valuation for restructuring. Meanwhile, the massive surge in IPL’s brand value was due to the TV and online streaming rights than went for more than 40000 crores INR combined
“Created on the American style of franchise-based systems of hiring players, the IPL has established itself as a hugely lucrative sports league, along similar lines as the NFL and the NBA,” says Harsh Talikoti, Senior Vice President, Corporate Valuation Advisory Services at Houlihan Lokey, in the report.
The report also mentioned the growth of digital platforms making an impact in favor of sports consumption. Notably, after the tournament experienced viewership decline on digital platform last year, the Jio Cinema decided to make viewership free for the fans.
“Besides the exponential growth in brand and business enterprise valuation of the IPL and the franchisees, it is interesting to note the prominent shift towards acceptance of digital platforms for sports consumption. Viacom18’s strategic push towards promoting digital viewership in India has undeniably reignited the much-needed excitement surrounding the IPL.

“This shift is evident in the remarkable viewership numbers witnessed during the current season on Viacom18’s OTT platform, JioCinema. However, Disney Star’s television viewing numbers were also very encouraging this year, achieving record levels,” added Talikoti

IPL has got bigger and interesting due to auction. If other leagues was to change their gear and want growth they should also move to auction strategy. It is a like of star players. But no league can come closer to IPL. But IPL matches should not exceed more
