Serie A action: Napoli win, Juventus held

A commanding performance from Napoli condemned Udinese to their first defeat of the season.

Thanks to goals from Victor Osimhen, Amir Rrahmani, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Hirving Lozano, Napoli picked up a comfortable 4-0 victory in front of a shell shocked Stadio Friuli crowd. 

The away side took little time to settle as they opened the scoring in the 24th minute through Victor Osimhen.

Marco Rui brilliantly found Lorenzo Insigne, who set up Osimhen for a simple tap in past Udinese custodian Marco Silvestri.

Osimhen’s goal set up the tone for the rest of the night as the hosts barely challenged their oppisition to get back into the game.

Amir Rrahmani doubled the lead eleven minutes later when the Kosovo national team captain guided the ball home after a Kalidou Koulibaly header fell to his feet.

The visitors did not take their feet off the pedal in the second half, as Koulibaly made it 3-0 only seven minutes after the restart.

Ruiz played the ball inside the d-box to found an unmarked Koulibaly, who made no mistake to punish Le Zebrette for their lackluster defending.

Hirving Lozano came off the bench to score the best goal of the night. Silvestri helplessly watched the Mexico international’s shot bending past him and making it into the net. 

Roma’s first defeat

Earlier, Roma suffered their first setback under Jose Mourinho when they lost 3-2 away to Hellas Verona.

Igor Tudor could not have asked for a better start to his coaching career at Verona as his side became the first Serie A team this season to inflict a defeat on Roma.

Lorenzo Pellegrini handed the visitors a slim lead in the first half.

Gianluca Caprari assisted Antonin Barack for the equalizer before scoring a goal himself to make the scoreline 2-1 in favor of Verona.

Ivan Ilic agonizingly put the ball into his own net to make the scores level, but Roma had no answer to Davide Faraoni’s 63rd-minute strike.

Inter on fire

A rampant Inter Milan put 6 goals past Bologna.

Edin Dzeko, 35, proved he still has an eye for goal, scoring a brace in a span of six minutes.

The Nerazzurri were already cruising 4-0 before Dzeko scored, however, as Lautaro Martinez, Milan Skriniar, Nicolo Barella, and Matias Vecino were all on target.

Arthur Theate grabbed a consolation goal for Bologna four minutes before the 90-minute mark. 

Juventus still winless

Juventus remained winless in Serie A as AC Milan held them to a one-all draw at the Juventus Stadium.

Juventus put on a much better display than their previous performances, but it was not enough to snatch all three points from Stefano Pioli’s men.

The hosts went ahead just four minutes after kick-off as Alvaro Morata scored to perfectly conclude a swift counter-attack that resulted from a Milan corner.

The goal inspired Juve to produce an exhilarating first-half performance, but Mike Maignan’s heroics at the Milan goal kept the score unchanged.

Milan looked more organized defensively in the second half and made it way more difficult for the home team to create clear-cut chances.

With 15 minutes from the final whistle, Juventus paid the price for their inept defending as Ante Rebic faced little resistance to restore parity.
