Ryan Gosling has stated after Margot Robbie and Gret Gerwig failed to get a nomination in their respective categories for Oscars 2024. The two played key roles in the success of ‘Barbie’ as the lead actress and the director respectively. Rosling pointed out the same in his statement and expressed his disappointment over his fellow co-star and the director not even getting a nomination.

Gosling thought that Ken was nonexistent without Barbie. He added that ‘Barbie’ could not have worked out well without the works of Robbie and Gerwig. The lead actor of ‘Barbie’ claimed that everyone in the project deserved to get a nomination given their work on and off the screen. The star actor added that no recognition would make sense without the nomination of everyone.

“There is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig & Margot Robbie… No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit and genius,” said Gosling in his statement. ‘Barbie’ was the highest-grossing movie of the year 2023. The common audience appreciated the movie for its light-hearted nature and a good way to spend time.

Mixed opinions of fans regarding the snub

The appreciation came from the scriptwriting and for including some of the elements that questioned the thought process of the people. Along with ‘Oppenheimer‘, ‘Barbie’ was able to create a revolution where the people did not choose one among the two releases to watch, but instead chose to watch both movies and celebrated it as ‘Barbenheimer’. Both movies were loved by the audience.

However, the same cannot be said about the critics, who criticized ‘Barbie’ for its screenplay and some of the elements that did not go well with them. The fans were of mixed opinions regarding the snub of the two. While some felt that the two ladies deserved to at least get a nomination, others thought that there was way too much competition in their respective categories.
