India faced a devastating defeat on November 19, as they were overcome by the Australian team by 6 wickets in the ODI World Cup 2023 final at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. The loss was particularly disheartening for the nation, given that the Men in Blue had remained undefeated, winning 10 consecutive matches, including the semi-final, only to falter in the crucial final match.

Meanwhile, India are currently engaged in the 5th and final T20I of the 5-match T20I series against the Kangaroos in Bengaluru. However, in the pre-match show, Bollywood star Ananya Panday appeared to promote her upcoming movie Kho Gaye Hum Kahan alongside Sidharth Chaturvedi. During this, the host posed a question to Ananya, asking her which cricketer she would like to send a direct message to (DM).

To this, Ananya responded with a smart reply saying, “I will DM Rohit Sharma. He is a really solid captain. Led the team exceptionally well in the World Cup, and I’d love to express my gratitude to him.” Ananya was quoted as saying by Aisanet Newsable. Fans reacted to this sweet gesture of the young actress and heaped praises on her for showing respect towards the Indian skipper.

Rohit Sharma was emotional after the loss in the final

Speaking of Rohit, he showcased exceptional performance throughout the tournament, excelling in both captaincy and batting. Rohit effectively led the team despite limited player options and emerged as the second-highest run-scorer, amassing 597 runs in 11 matches. Virat Kohli, the former India captain, claimed the top spot with an impressive 765 runs in the same number of matches.

Despite his outstanding contributions, Rohit couldn’t conceal his disappointment after the heartbreaking loss to Australia in the final. Cameras captured him visibly upset, shedding tears as he made his way to the dressing room. Currently, he is taking a break and spending quality time with his family in London. Rohit is expected to make a return to the field for the upcoming 2-match Test series against South Africa.
