Bigg Boss 16, the popular Indian version of Big Brother, has landed in a controversy since it premiered on Colors TV on 1st October.

Hosted by Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, the show has been roasted by netizens for including film director Sajid Khan as a housemate.

Now, today, ‘Remove Sajid Khan’ has been trending on social media. Netizens have started a petition demanding his eviction from Salman Khan’s reality show.

The reason for their grouse?

In 2018, the filmmaker was accused of sexual harassment during the #MeToo movement.

Eight female colleagues and a journalist levelled various allegations against him.

Sajid, however, had denied the accusations and no police case was filed against him.

That hasn’t stopped women from showing their anger and displeasure through social media posts.

One user tweeted – As a responsible human, I would really like to ask you all to do this. I urge @BiggBoss to Remove Sajid Khan (MeToo accused) From The Show #EvictSajidKhan

Another wrote – Pls everyone sign this petition. This is much bigger than fandoms. Try doing the right thing. I urge @BiggBoss to Remove Sajid Khan (MeToo accused) From The Show #EvictSajidKhan

Prominent personalities like singer Sona Mohapatra and Barkha Dutt also blasted the decision to provide legitimacy to Sajid Khan.

Mahapatra said Indian TV channels were a “depraved and a sad lot” for including men called out for sexual harassment.

A lawyer and a co-author of the petition against the show, Sukriti Chauhan, said that the allegations against the director were “quite disturbing, graphic and horrific” and giving him a prime-time slot on one of India’s most popular shows was “not right”.

“So, we are asking ColorsTV to not give him that platform. We are asking them to not celebrate someone who has got very serious allegations against him.”

Viacom18, which owns Colors TV has not responded publicly to the criticism yet.

Despite the controversy, Sajid is grabbing eyeballs in the house.

His fights with Shalin Bhanot and bromance with Abdu Rozik have been the show’s main talking points, so far.

Now, it’s upto the audience to decide whether they will save him by giving votes or eliminate him.
