In a surprising turn of events at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, India suffered a shocking 6-run loss to Bangladesh in the last Super Fours match of Asia Cup 2023 on Friday, September 15. This was the first match India lost in the tournament, however, they have already qualified for the final which will be played against Sri Lanka on Sunday.

Meanwhile, former legendary Pakistan bowler Shoaib Akhtar didn’t leave the chance to mock the Indian team after their loss. Akhtar said that it was a relief for the Pakistan fans and also for him to see India losing a game in the tournament. He also advised the Indian team to not take the other teams lightly. However, fans were fumed to hear Akhtar’s words and ripped him apart on social media.

“India have lost the game. Embarrassing loss. We can’t criticise too much. Bangladesh are here to play. People were criticising Pakistan, saying that they got beaten up. Sri Lanka are a good team, not an average team. The same is the case with Bangladesh. They are all playing international cricket. Finally, some relief for the Pakistan fans, including me, that India have lost the game. Wake-up call for India. You can’t take teams lightly after winning a few games,” Akhtar was quoted as saying by NDTV Sports.

India need to wake up: Shoaib Akhtar

Akhtar continued to criticise and said that India, Pakistan, England and Australia would be the favourites at the World Cup but the small teams would trouble others. He said that India need to wake up before the major tournament.

“We are saying that Pakistan and India are favourites at the World Cup. These two, along with Australia and England, will reach the semis. This is not the case. Small teams will be trouble. This is anybody’s game. Shubman Gill‘s ton went in vain. India need to wake up. No disrespect but Bangladesh made a statement that they are here to prove a point.” he added.
