Ranbir Kapoor faces allegations of hurting religious sentiments after Christmas party video sparks controversy

A Mumbai resident, Sanjay Tiwari, has filed a complaint against Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor and his family members for allegedly hurting religious sentiments during their annual Christmas party. The controversy surrounds a viral video from the Kapoor family’s Christmas celebration. In the viral video, Ranbir says “Jai Mata Di” after pouring liquor on a cake.

While no First Information Report (FIR) has been registered in the case, Tiwari’s complaint was filed through his lawyers, Ashish Rai and Pankaj Mishra, at the Ghatkopar police station. He alleges that Kapoor “is seen pouring liquor on the cake and setting it on fire while saying Jai Mata Di.” The complaint further argues that in Hinduism, the fire god is invoked before other deities, and Kapoor and his family intentionally used intoxicants while celebrating the festival of another religion.

The video in question captures moments from the annual Christmas brunch hosted by Kunal Kapoor. It was attended by Ranbir Kapoor, his wife Alia Bhatt, and their daughter Raha. The couple also participated in an intimate Christmas gathering at Alia’s mother, Soni Razdan’s, place. It was evident from Alia’s social media posts expressing gratitude for the celebrations.
