‘Protein kam pad gayi hogi’ – Fans react as Shaheen Afridi doubts accuracy of speed guns and claims himself to be quicker than projected
Shaheen Afridi has made a bizarre claim regarding the speed guns in the series against Australia. The left-arm pacer doubted the accuracy of speed guns as they showed his speeds at 130 kmph. The T20 skipper of Pakistan felt that he was clicking way above that. In the process, Afridi doubted the credibility of the speed guns in the series between Pakistan and Australia.
Pakistan are currently on a tour of New Zealand for a limited-overs series. It will be Afridi’s first major assignment as the new skipper of the side. Ahead of the first T20I, the new skipper was in the press conference. When asked about his reduced pace, Shaheen came up with a bizarre claim. He questioned if the Pakistan bowlers were really as slow as projected by speed guns.
The Pakistani skipper added that they were surprised with the pace shown on the big screens. Afridi added that there were thought processes regarding the speed guns. He added if the speed guns were decided by the broadcasters to not show a pace of over 140 kmph. “We were watching the big screen and said to ourselves, ‘Are we really this slow?’ The speeds were coming up to 132-133kph,” said Afridi.
Reduction in pace of Shaheen Afridi
“We were surprised and were thinking ‘Has it been decided by the broadcasters that the speed gun won’t go above this?’,” added Shaheen in his statement. It is worth noting that Shaheen sustained an injury during the Asia Cup 2023. As a result, he was ruled out of the series midway. The star pacer did join the side for the ODI WC 2023 but was surely not at his quickest.
In fact, Shaheen has not been at his best in terms of pace in the last few months. He is yet to be at his best with the ball. However, the bizarre claim against the broadcasters regarding the speed guns has not gone well with the fans. The focus of Shaheen and Co would be to perform well in the series against New Zealand.
