Team India’s squad for the upcoming three-match home ODI series was announced on 18 September. In the first two matches, most of the core World Cup players got rested as KL Rahul will lead the team. Many young faces have been added who are basically a part of the squad for the upcoming Asian Games 2023. But, still, Sanju Samson did not get a chance in the squad. Sanju was a part of the squad that travelled West Indies for both the ODI and T20I series.

Then, he played in the three-match T20I series in Ireland. After that, he got snubbed from the Asia Cup as he was only selected as a travelling reserve. Now, he missed a place in the upcoming series also. Seeing that, the former Team India pacer, Irfan Pathan seemed unhappy and shared a tweet. He wrote: “If I’m in place of @IamSanjuSamson right now I will be very disappointed…” Fans also shared their views in reply to that.

Here is the shared tweet:

Sanju Samson was the only travelling reserve for Team India in the Asia Cup 2023

Sanju played only two ODIs in the West Indies before playing all the five T20Is. But, it was a disappointing tour for him. In two ODIs, he scored 60 runs, including a 51-run knock. Then, in five T20Is, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper scored just 32 runs in three innings. In Ireland, he played two T20Is and scored just 41 runs. So, despite getting some chances, he failed to grab those with a big score to his name.

Now, it seems that Sanju Samson is not in the scheme of things for the team ahead of the World Cup. He even has not been considered for the Asian Games where his experience of playing at the senior level can help the team. Speaking of his International career so far, Sanju has played 13 ODIs and 24 T20Is so far. In the shortest format of the game, he has a poor average of 19.68 but in the 50-over format, Sanju has a staggering average of 55.71.
