Manchester City emphatically secured their maiden Club World Cup victory, defeating Brazilian side Fluminense 4-0 in a historic final. The match saw Julian Alvarez make history with the fastest-ever goal in a Club World Cup final, finding the net just 40 seconds after kick-off.

Pep Guardiola’s squad, despite missing the injured Erling Haaland, showcased their dominance and sealed their fifth trophy of 2023. The triumph in the Club World Cup added to an already illustrious year, during which they clinched the FA Cup, Premier League, Champions League, and UEFA Super Cup.

Guardiola, reflecting on the achievement, hinted at a possible departure, stating, “I have the feeling we’ve closed a chapter. We’ve already won all the titles. There’s nothing left to win.” The manager, in his eighth year at the helm, expressed pride in the team’s accomplishments and hinted at the end of an era.

Manchester City Captain Kyle Walker echoed the sentiment, acknowledging the significance of winning the five major trophies available. The team’s hunger and motivation were evident, capping off a remarkable journey that left Guardiola contemplating a new chapter in the club’s history.

The final itself was a showcase of Manchester City’s prowess, with Alvarez’s early goal setting the tone. Fluminense faced an uphill battle, exacerbated by Nino’s goal in the 27th minute and Phil Foden’s contribution in the 72nd. Alvarez completed his brace in the 88th minute, sealing the 4-0 victory and prompting jubilant celebrations among City fans.

Guardiola’s managerial feat reached a historic milestone as he became the first manager to guide three different clubs to Club World Cup titles, having previously won with Barcelona in 2009 and 2011 and Bayern Munich in 2013.

The match was challenging, as an apparent knee injury to Rodri cast a shadow on City’s celebration. Despite the setback, Rodri was awarded the Golden Ball as the best player of the tournament, underscoring his impact on the team’s success.
