‘Pehle fielding karo, match jeetna pakka’ – Fans react as South Africa registers easy win against India to level ODI series by 1-1

In the second ODI of the three-match series, South Africa and India locked horns at St George Park, Gqeberha. Ahead of the game, the home team was coming off a 0-1 trail after losing the first match by a huge margin. They needed to win this game to keep the series alive. On the other hand, the Men In Blue was looking to win the series right here.

Meanwhile, in this game, the Proteas won the toss and elected to bowl first. They had a great start as the ball was moving a bit. The visitors lost two wickets for 46 runs. At this stage, the likes of skipper KL Rahul and Sai Sudarshan put together 68 runs for the third wicket. Both batters scored a fifty each. However, the team failed to capitalize on the platform.

From 114/2, the team was bowled out for 211 runs in 46.2 overs. Nandre Burger, who has been signed by the Rajasthan Royals during the IPL 2024 player auction, took three wickets. On the other hand, Beuran Hendricks and Keshav Maharaj took two wickets each. Apart from this, skipper Aiden Markram and Lizaad Williams took one each.

In reply, the home team had a great start with Reeza Hendricks and Tony de Zorzi putting together 130 runs for the first wicket. However, the former was dropped at slips and both survived the good bowling from the Indian team which bowled them out for 116 runs in the first game.

Meanwhile, Hendricks played slowly but helped Zorzi to keep going in his style. The former scored 52 off 81 balls. On the other hand, the left-hander, Zorzi scored his maiden ODI hundred. Rinku Singh took his maiden wicket towards the end of the game in the form of Rassie van der Dussen. In the end, the team ended up winning the game by eight wickets and level the series 1-1.
