‘Pakistan ko alive rakha hai aaj’ – Fans react as South Africa pummel New Zealand by 190 runs in ODI World Cup 2023
In the 32nd game of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, New Zealand and South Africa locked horns in Pune. Ahead of the game, the two-time finalists, NZ were coming two back-to-back losses after starting the tournament with four wins. On the other hand, was coming off three back-to-back wins after being humbled by the Netherlands. Meanwhile, in this game, the Blackcaps won the toss and elected to bowl first.
They had a good start as Trent Boult took the wicket of skipper Temba Bavuma with 38 runs on the board. After this, Quinton de Kock’s difficult catch was let go off by Glenn Phillips. This proved to be costly as De Kock and Rassie van der Dussen put together more than 200 runs for the second time in this tournament. They did it against Sri Lanka last month. Meanwhile, both players went on to score individual hundreds.
With David Miller getting to 53 off 30 balls including two fours and four sixes, the Proteas got to 357/4 at the end of the innings.
South Africa annihilates another team in the form of New Zealand
In reply, the island-nation-based team had a poor start as they lost in-form players, Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra with 45 runs on the board in nine overs. In the 11th over, Will Young (33) was caught behind off Gerald Coetzee. Since then, the team kept losing wickets at regular intervals and they were never in the chase.
At one stage, the team lost nine wickets for 133 runs. Even though Matt Henry was injured during the first innings, he came out to bat. With the last batter, Glenn Phillips (60) got his first fifty of the tournament and got some game time. In the end, the team was bowled out 167 runs, losing the game by 190 runs.

Glenn Phillips is all that New Zealand seem to have – comes in, takes wickets, as a part-timer, hangs in when all else fails. #NZvSA

New Zealand is losing steam now. Doubt if Henry will be fit for the Pakistan game. Pakistan must fancy beating NZ #NZvsSA
