In the wake of Babar Azam’s resignation from the captaincy role across all formats following Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the ODI World Cup 2023, significant changes are on the horizon for Pakistan cricket. Shan Masood has been entrusted with leading the Test side during the upcoming series against Australia, stepping into a pivotal leadership role.

Known for his batting prowess and strategic acumen, Masood brings a wealth of experience to guide the team in the longer format. Simultaneously, in the T20I arena, the responsibility will be shouldered by the dynamic Shaheen Afridi. The left-arm pacer has been a key contributor with the ball and now assumes a leadership role, injecting vitality into the T20 squad.

These decisions mark a transitional phase for Pakistan cricket, as new leaders emerge to steer the team forward. Masood and Afridi’s appointments reflect a strategic approach to rejuvenate the team’s performance, and fans are eager to witness the impact of this leadership transition in the upcoming series against Australia.

I feel it is the right time for this call: Babar Azam

As the cricketing community anticipates a fresh chapter for Pakistan, attention now turns to how Masood and Afridi will shape the team’s fortunes in Test and T20 formats, respectively. However, it is still unknown who will be leading the side in the ODI format.

Regarding Babar, the signs indicated a potential resignation from captaincy due to criticism from former cricketers and fans in his home country. Succumbing to the pressure, Babar declared his decision on X (formerly known as Twitter) to step down as captain while maintaining his role as a batter.

“Today, I am stepping down as the captain of Pakistan in all formats. It’s a difficult decision but I feel it is the right time for this call. I will continue to represent Pakistan as a player in all three formats. I am here to support the new captain and the team with my experience and dedication. I want to express my sincere thanks to the Pakistan Cricket Board for entrusting me with this significant responsibility.” Babar tweeted.
