India clashed against West Indies in the first match of the 3-match ODI series at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Thursday, July 27. Indian bowlers displayed a brilliant bowling performance, especially Kuldeep Yadav who took 4 wickets in the match. The Indian team then experimented with their batting order, however, they managed to win the match by 5 wickets in the end.

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra talked about the middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav. He said Suryakumar had the opportunity to finish the match for his team. But despite coming to bat at no. 3 Suryakumar departed after scoring only 19 runs.

“Then came Suryakumar Yadav – that’s another question. This was an opportunity for him. I had kept Suryakumar Yadav in my World Cup team but for that, he will have to score runs. He was sent to bat at No. 3 so that he goes and collects runs, and his name continues to remain in the audition. I didn’t get the answer from Suryakumar” Chopra was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda.

Rohit Sharma came to bat at no.7

Chopra further added and said that the way Suryakumar got out was hilarious as he was continuously playing the sweep shot. Despite getting beaten multiple times while playing the sweep shot, he decided to go with the shot again and eventually got himself LBW.

“He was batting decently, but the way he got out – he first hit a sweep which went for a four, another sweep and got beaten, another sweep and a leg-before appeal, and then another sweep and got out leg-before. These were four consecutive balls and not four separate events,” he added.

Interestingly, skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli decided not to come to bat as they wanted the other batters to finish the match. However, India lost their 5 wickets while chasing a short target of 114 runs. Due to this Rohit had to come to bat at no. 7 and finished the match for the team.
