Daryl Micthell was brought by CSK for the IPL 2024. At the auction table, Mitchell became one of the most expensive players in the history of the auctions. The Kiwi batter was picked by CSK for INR 14 crores eventually, which seems a huge sum for the star batter. CSK faced stiff challenge from other teams at the auction table to get Mitchell, particularly from SRH and PBKS.

The middle order batters have been in demand in the IPL auction 2024. Teams like DC, SRH, PBKS, and others need such players. These were the teams that ended up targeting him in the auction. Punjab Kings and DC showed their interest in Mitchell right from the start. They were involved in the bidding battle for a long time. Both the teams seemed like getting him at one point.

That was when CSK joined the bidding race and showed their interest in getting the Kiwi batter. PBKS was still in the contention to get the middle order batter. CSK and PBKS seemed to go the distance to get the aggressive batter for their side. Eventually, it was CSK that gave its everything to get Mitchell to their side. They now have 4 players from NZ in their squad.

Terrific performer in the ODI World Cup 2023

Mitchell was very good in the recently concluded ODI World Cup 2023 in India. The Kiwi batter was arguably the best middle order batter of the tournament. For New Zealand, Mitchell scored 552 runs in 9 innings, at a batting average of over 69, at a batting strike rate of over 110, including 2 hundreds and 2 fifty plus scores. He was aggressive as a batter in the tournament.

Mitchell scored both his hundreds against India, which had the best bowling attack in the tournament. Against a unit consisting of the likes of Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav, the MO batter batted very well and scored two hundreds. In the group stage match, Mitchell scored the hundred in Dharamshala. In the semifinal, he scored a hundred at Wankhede stadium in Mumbai.
