Novak Djokovic silences rowdy crowd in Britain to help Serbia enter semifinal of Davis Cup
Serbian Tennis star Novak Djokovic continued his brilliant run in the Davis Cup. He helped his team to claim a 2-0 win over Great Britain to enter the semifinal of the Davis Cup. Since 2011, Djokovic is yet to lose a match in the singles category of men’s Tennis. He has also claimed the most number of wins for a Serbian Tennis player with 44 wins to his name in the tournament.
The former Serbian player named Nenad Zimonjic held the previous record for his team. But the performance of Djokovic in the match was not even the most talked about aspect of the match. The crowd in the match was absolutely ruthless against Serbia, and particularly against Djokovic. The star player was booed by the rowdy crowd for the entire match, which was not in the right spirits.
As Djokovic had a comfortable win over his opponent to knock Great Britain out of the tournament, he gave back to the crowd with his aggressive gesture. Djokovic signalled that he was not hearing the noise from the crowd and gave them a sarcastic flying kiss after winning the match. For the gesture of Djokovic, the Britain crowd further booed him. Djokovic seemed to be unperturbed by it.
‘That’s something I kind of have to be prepared for’ – Novak Djokovic
Speaking about the crowd after the win, Djokovic claimed that they showed him disrespect for almost the entire duration of the match. Djokovic added that it is something he gets prepared for. “The entire match, pretty much, [they showed] disrespect, but again, that’s something I kind of have to be prepared for,” said Novak Djokovic. Even as the Serbian spoke, the crowd seemed to drum down his voice.
The star player was not happy with what he had to witness. Djokovic urged the crowd to behave responsibly. The world record holder asked the people to learn to respect the players. “Learn how to respect players. No, you shut up! No, you be quiet!” added Djokovic. The crowd usually happens to be against Djokovic almost everywhere across the world.
