‘Naagin dance flop ho gaya’ – Fans react as Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by 21 runs in 2nd Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 clash

Sri Lanka and Bangladesh clashed against each other in the 2nd match of the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 clash on Saturday, September 9 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The Sri Lankan team displayed a brilliant bowling performance and defeated the Bangladeshi team by 21 runs.

Talking about the match, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bowl first. Bangladesh’s openers provided a great start to the team but Dimuth Karunaratne departed in the 6th over on the score of 18 runs. But later, Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis stitched a brilliant 74-run stand for the 2nd wicket.

Nissanka went back to the pavilion on 40 runs while Mendis smashed his half-century and departed after scoring 50 runs which included 6 fours and 1 six. Sri Lanka’s middle-order couldn’t do much but Samarawickrama played an outstanding knock of 93 runs which came off just 72 balls. During the knock, he smashed 8 fours and 2 sixes.

Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud were the most successful bowlers for Bangladesh as both picked up 3 wickets each. Ahmed conceded 62 runs while Mahmud conceded 57 runs. Shoriful Islam also managed to take 2 wickets. Sri Lanka were restricted to 257 runs after losing 9 wickets in 50 overs.

Brilliant bowling performance by Sri Lanka

Chasing the target, Bangladesh’s openers Mohammad Naim and Mehidy Hasan Miraz provided a great start as they stitched a 55-run stand for the first wicket. But Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanka provided 2 much-needed breakthroughs as he dismissed both Naim and Miraz. 

Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan couldn’t provide much as he departed on the score of just 3 runs. Later, Mushfiqur Rahim and Towhid Hridoy stitched a 72-run stand for the 5th wicket but once again Shanka came and dismissed Rahim in the 38th over. Hridoy tried hard and scored 82 runs but Maheesh Theekshana dismissed him in the 44th over.

Later, no other batter could provide anything to the scoreboard as they were restricted to the score of 236 runs. Theekshana, Shanka and Matheesha Pathirana picked up 3 wickets each and won their first match of the Super 4 clash.
