Mumbai Indians took on Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 5 of IPL 2021.

However, MI started the match badly losing De Kock early on just 10 runs.

Captain Rohit Sharma batted responsibly scoring 43 runs out of 32 balls with 1 six and 3 fours.

The start was slow and Mumbai made 42 runs at the end of the powerplay.

Suryakumar Yadav made a brilliant half century. His 56 came off just 36 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes.

But after losing out Yadav in 11th over, wickets started falling at regular intervals.

The KKR spinners and pace bowlers were outstanding.

Varun Chakravarthy and Shakib al Hasan gave away a total of 50 runs in their overs and managed 2 wickets in return.

Andre Russell took career best figures of 5 wickets for 15 runs in only 2 overs.

The former T20 World Cup winner outfoxed the whole Mumbai batting line-up with a mix of slow balls and yorkers.

Pat Cummins also took the vital wickets of Rohit Sharma and the dangerous Ishan Kishan.

Shakib and Krishna also took 1 wicket each.

Mumbai Indians were 82-1 at one point but they collapsed in an unlikely fashion and were all out for 152.

KKR openers start briskly

Mumbai needed an early breakthrough, however, things were not looking pretty.

The KKR openers smashed the ball out of the park in the power play overs.

Both Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana were in fine form.

They managed to hit 3 sixes and 11 fours with a strike of over 100, reaching 70 runs in just 8 overs without any wicket.

Nitish Rana made 57 runs and he continued his fine from the previous match.

At this point, KKR were cruising.

But Mumbai came back strongly and pulled off an unlikely victory at the last moment.

After the explosive start by the openers, nobody in KKR even got to double figures.

After Gill’s departure, Rahul managed to play only 5 balls and got out on 5 runs.

Next, Eoin Morgan fell for 7, while trying an ambitious stroke against the rub of the ball, off Rahul Chahar.

Rahul Chahar was exceptional, taking 4 wickets in his 4 overs and conceding just 27 runs.

15 runs were required in the last over but Trent Boult rose to the occasion.

Boult’s slower ball took out the danger man Andre Russell, with a caught and bowled dismissal.

Next, he finished off Pat Cummins with another yorker.

Mumbai Indians won their 1st match of 2021 IPL edition with 10 runs to spare.

Mumbai Indians 152 (Yadav 56, Rohit 43, Russell 5-15) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders 142 for 7 (Rana 57, Gill 33, Chahar 4-27) by 10 runs
