Afghanistan mystery spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman has made a forgettable record for himself in ODI cricket with the bat. He has become the first player to get hit-wicket in two consecutive ODI games. His first instance was against Pakistan in the third ODI last month in Sri Lanka. In the game, the former U19 player scored the fifth-fastest fifty for his side.

The right-hander came out to bat at 97/7, chasing 269. With the game pretty much gone from the Blue Brigade, Rahman decided to take matters into his own hands and entertain the fans and teammates. The former Punjab Kings player scored a 26-ball fifty. He ended with 64 off 37 balls with five fours and as many sixes. He could have scored more if not for stepping onto the stumps accidentally.

Rahman did hit Shaheen Afridi for a four before getting hit wicket.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman does the same against Bangladesh in Asia Cup 2023

Talking about this game, Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first in a must-win game for them. On the other hand, after their forgetful series against Sri Lanka, the Afghans played their first Asia Cup 2023 game. Batting first, the three-time finalists amassed 334/5, thanks to hundreds from Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mehidy Hasan Miraj.

Apart from them, Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan played cameos. In reply, despite Ibrahim Zadran’s and skipper Hashatullah Shahidi’s fifty, the team was never in the game. They were eventually bowled out for 245 runs in 44.3 overs. In the game, Rahman couldn’t connect the bat with the ball like he did against Pakistan. When he did, in the 45th over, he backfoot just dragged towards the stumps, making him the first player to get hit-wicket twice in a row in ODIs.
