Mohun Bagan bring back Antonio Lopez Habas after sacking Juan Ferrando

Mohun Bagan has sacked Juan Ferrando and brought back Antonio Lopez Habas to manage them. West Bengal’s Prestigious club has parted ways with Ferrando due to the bad performance of the side under his tenure in the AFC Cup in back-to-back seasons. As a result, the club has recalled Habas. It seems to be an interesting move given the record of Habas.

Habas is the most successful coach in the history of the Indian Super League (ISL). Habas has won 2 titles and managed to enter the final of the other 2 seasons of the ISL as a manager. Ferrando does not have an impressive record as a coach. Two years ago, Mohun Bagan had done exactly the same when they replaced Habas with Ferrando. It seems a bit funny thinking about the move of the most successful franchise of the ISL.

While Juan helped Mohun Bagan to win the ISL and Durand Cup in the same year, it was not impressive enough to stay as the manager of the side. About 18 hours after his birthday, Juan gets sacked by Mohun Bagan. The champion side failed to make it to the further rounds in the Asian championship despite having some of the most expensive players in their lineup.

‘For the numerous memories, thank you Juan!’ – Mohun Bagan

Taking to X, Mohun Bagan’s official handle confirmed the fact that they have parted ways with Ferrando with immediate effect. In their post, the defending champions of ISL thanked Juan for his services to the club in 2023, where the side won the ISL and the Durand Cup. “For the ISL Cup win, for the Durand Cup win, for the numerous memories, thank you Juan!” wrote Mohun Bagan on X on Wednesday.

Habas has a good history with Mohun Bagan. Under his leadership, ATK won the ISL in the maiden season in 2014. Habas led ATK in 2014 and 2015 for a first stint. He also led them in 2019 and 2020. In the season 2019/20, ATK won the title in the ISL yet again. Habas was fired from his role by Mohun Bagan on the 21st of December in 2021.
